Water has many benefits for the health of the body, and drinking it with the recommended amounts is considered a good thing. An adult person is advised to drink approximately eight cups of water per day. As for children aged one year or more, they need 0.8-1.4 liters per day.

But what if the child exceeds the recommended daily amount, and his desire to drink water increases, some mothers may feel anxious about this change, and they search for the reason behind that, and there are already several reasons why the child drinks too much water.

 Causes of drinking water in abundance in children

 There are various reasons for the frequent drinking of water by the child, including regular causes that do not cause anxiety, including the reasons that may need medical intervention, as follows:

  • The child breathes through the mouth more than his breathing through the nose, especially during sleep, and this condition occurs when his tonsils are enlarged, or because of a cold or seasonal allergy.
  •  Lost fluid in excess, either through vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating and frequent urination, and these are among the less common cases that are linked to disease.
  •  Urinary system problems, salt deficiency and lack of some nutrients, all of which lead to the child's desire to drink more water.
  •  Childhood diabetes, just as it is for adults, children also develop diabetes and suffer from severe thirst and drink large quantities of water.

Drinking water is bad for children
  •  Water poisoning: One of the dangers and problems resulting from drinking children under the age of a year is water, which is the occurrence of water poisoning.
  • Bacterial infection: Another worrying reason to give the infant the water is the infection of bacteria. Bacteria and parasites can be found in untreated water well. To avoid giving the child contaminated water, it is recommended to use a multi-layer filter to clean it and treat it well and to be appropriate for the child.
  •  Feeling overeating: Drinking too much water causes him to feel overeating and thus eating less food, or the child may be urged to vomit, feeling uncomfortable and unable to move comfortably.
  • Urination in abundance: This problem occurs especially during the night, so drinking too much water in the evening period leads to the child urinating on himself during his sleep, so it is advised not to give him water before bed.
